Culturally Grounded Wellbeing

Discover the unique services offered by Kahiau Wellbeing , designed to support the mental and emotional wellbeing of Auckland's Pasifika communities. Our heart-led approach blends lived experience with deep cultural understanding.

What Makes Us Unique

At Kahiau Wellbeing, our uniqueness lies in our lived experience, cultural grounding, and the way we deliver support with genuine heart. Born from personal loss and real-life challenges, our services are not only trauma‑informed — they are experience‑informed. We understand the silent battles many face because we’ve walked through them ourselves.

What sets us apart is how we combine professional support work with cultural safety, compassion, and connection. Our team provides disability support, high‑needs behavioural support, mental health support, and day‑to‑day care in a way that honours Pasifika values, faith, and family systems. We don’t just “do tasks” — we build trust, dignity, and belonging.

Unlike mainstream services, we create safe, welcoming spaces where clients and whānau feel seen, respected, and understood. Our approach blends Talanoa, storytelling, creative healing, and practical support to gently challenge stigma around mental health and disability — especially in families where silence is the norm.

We don’t just offer support. We offer relationship, cultural understanding, and empowerment. Every service is delivered with compassion, authenticity, and a deep commitment to uplifting our people.

What Makes Us Unique

At Kahiau Wellbeing, our support work team provides compassionate, culturally grounded, and client‑centred services for individuals living with disability, mental health challenges, behavioural needs, or requiring day‑to‑day support. Our approach is rooted in Pasifika values of alofa, tautua, respect, and community connection, ensuring every person feels seen, supported, and empowered.

High‑Needs & Behavioural Support

We specialise in working with clients who require higher‑level support due to behavioural, emotional, or social challenges. Our workers are trained to:

  • Use calm, safe, and consistent approaches

  • Support emotional regulation

  • Identify triggers and reduce escalation

  • Build positive routines and structure

  • Promote independence and confidence

Our focus is always on safety, dignity, and positive outcomes.

Pasifika Cultural Support

As a Pasifika‑led organisation, we understand the importance of identity, culture, and belonging. We provide:

  • Culturally safe support

  • Pasifika‑centred engagement

  • Respect for family, faith, and community values

  • Support workers who understand cultural nuance and communication styles

This ensures clients feel understood and supported in a way that aligns with their cultural identity.

Community Access & Social Participation

We help clients stay connected to their community by supporting:

  • Social outings

  • Recreational activities

  • Appointments

  • Exercise and wellbeing activities

  • Building confidence in public spaces

Our goal is to reduce isolation and increase independence.

Wellbeing is more than physical health — it’s emotional, cultural, spiritual, and social. We support your wellbeing through:

  • One‑on‑one check‑ins

  • Motivation and encouragement

  • Support with appointments and daily structure

  • Building healthy habits and routines

  • Reducing isolation and increasing connection

  • Strength‑based, culturally grounded approaches

We honour your identity, your story, and your journey.

Suicide‑Prevention Awareness & Early Support

Kahiau Wellbeing has trained team members in Life Keepers Suicide Prevention, and we take a compassionate, culturally safe approach to supporting people who may be struggling.

We help by:

  • Recognising early warning signs

  • Offering safe, non‑judgemental conversations

  • Connecting people to the right supports

  • Encouraging community connection and hope

  • Promoting resilience and protective factors

  • Supporting whānau and aiga to understand how to help

We do not replace clinical services — instead, we walk alongside individuals and families, helping them feel supported, seen, and not alone.

Our Commitment to You

We are committed to providing support that is:

  • Culturally grounded

  • Person‑centred

  • Strength‑based

  • Safe and respectful

  • Flexible and responsive

  • Focused on helping you thrive

At Kahiau Wellbeing, you are not just a client — you are part of our community.

Not Sure Where to Start?

That’s completely okay—many people feel the same way when they first reach out. At Kahiau Wellbeing, we’re here to help you figure it out together. You don’t need to have the right words or know exactly what you need. Just start by having a chat with us.

We’ll listen, guide you through what we offer, and help you find the support that feels right for where you’re at—whether that’s a one-on-one kōrero, joining a workshop, or just sitting in a space where you feel safe and heard.

"Kahiau Wellbeing has been a lifeline for my family. Their understanding and support have made a world of difference."
